Alternate Timelines

We watched the first episode of the second season of Loki the other day, but I fell asleep, so I’m guessing it wasn’t very engaging. I like Loki, the character, and the first season was okay, but I don’t know. I guess it all comes back to my distaste for alternate timelines.

You see, if there are infinite timelines and infinite Kates out there, then that sort of cheapens all of it. I prefer to think that I am the only one of me. Otherwise…it gets weird.

Plus, if there were infinite timelines, that means that that close call I might have had here could have been completely disastrous for alternate timeline Kate. Every bad thing that could possibly happen has happened in some timeline. And every good thing that has happened has happened in some timeline. I don’t find that one comforting, because I wish I was the Kate who lived in the best timeline.

I suppose I might be, and all the other Kates are much worse off, but that’s not comforting either. So all things considered, I prefer to just not bother with alternate timelines.

I also dislike time travel which focuses too much on the mechanics and complications of time travel. I don’t mind time travel when the focus is more on interesting differences between the two times and a character trying to fit in during a time period that is not their own. That part seems fun.

But a character accidentally creating a rift in the space-time continuum and all of time will be destroyed if they can’t fix it…well, it’s not for me.

I still will keep watching (or napping through) Loki though. Everyone else seems to like it. And I’ve certainly seen worse Marvel television shows. Of course, my favorite is still Wandavision.

I’m still a little mad at everything that happened to Wanda and Vision. I know they are probably just following the comics and Wanda has to have some sort of story arc that I’m unaware of, but sometimes, it’s nice for characters to simply live happily ever after.

I’m also realizing that I’m probably way too invested in Marvel characters, but they just keep making more content. What can one do against such reckless content production?

I suppose I didn’t mind the alternate timeline in Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension. The part where Doofensmirtz finds a brand new best friend and it’s him is always a good time.

Sometimes I wonder if I met an alternate Kate if we’d be best friends, or if she’d get on my nerves. Maybe we’d never talk and just ignore each other so we could read our books.
